Me reviewing Furry Shades of Gay 2: A Shade Gayer shouldn't surprise anyone who has been following me for a while. After all, I'm no stranger to reviewing games with furries, male-on-male relationships, or both, plus I already played and liked the first game.
Story
It’s similar to the dev's previous games. It features 5 independent stories (plus an extra one with characters from the prequel) with different casts and scenarios. There's also enough variety to keep everyone happy. Are you into spooky stories and femboys? Wholesome couples? Master-slave BDSM scenarios? Cheesy plots featuring muscleheads with big and bulging... muscles? Cop stories where the protagonists rub each other up the wrong way? then the game gets you covered.
Furthermore, the stories are as well-written as they are enjoyable and also feature a branching narrative. I have a hard time picking a favorite because they all were good in their own way. "Dark Carnival" nailed the creepy atmosphere, "Blueback Mountains" is the embodiment of wholesomeness, "Snake Pit" is a well-done BDSM story, "King of the Gym" is cheesy in a good way, and "Tango Undercover" is a nice cop story.
Gameplay
Gameplay-wise it has the same game mechanics where the goal is to match a specific amount of tiles Candy-Crush style to progress in the story. Also, the plot branches in one way or another depending on which goal you reach (or which one you choose if you meet both). However, it's a lot more balanced in this one. There are no absurdly difficult levels and power-ups are cheaper, just in case you have a bad luck streak.
Audiovisuals
I liked the art and the use of different styles for each story. Some use vibrant colors while others have bolder lines, but they all have something in common; they are gorgeous. The characters are beautiful, the backgrounds are very well-drawn, and the animation in the sex scenes is very smooth. You can tell they put a lot of effort into them. As for the soundtrack, it's so great I'm listening to it while writing this review. It’s mainly composed of electronic music, save for the appropriately creepy track that plays in the first story.
Verdict: Fun
Furry Shades of Gay 2: A Shade Gayer is a fun match-3 game anyone should play regardless of whether they are into furries or steamy gay action. Each story is satisfying on its own, its gameplay is solid, its art is gorgeous, and the sex scenes are well done. I enjoyed it even though I'm not the game's target audience, so hesitate to buy it if you’re a fan of the genre.
