Reviewing Drain Mansion shortly after reviewing another game featured in the latest NextFest wasn't in my plans, but fate wanted it to come a week later than Nayla's Castle, and I'm glad to tell you how awesome this game is.
Story
It puts you in the shoes of a guy who found himself inside a strange building after his sister went to explore the mysterious mansion in the forest, and now he has to find his way out without being captured by the many monster girls that live there, or else they'll milk him to death.
I like how the game doesn't rely on infodumps to tell the story. After the brief introduction, you learn about the lore by reading the books and signs scattered on the mansion and talking to the few succubuses that don't jump onto your bones the second they spot you. It also has different endings depending on how you did in the game. There's the Normal Ending that you'll likely get in your first run and the secret True Ending you get once you activate the three hidden switches in the mansion and enter a previously inaccessible area.
Gameplay
It's a solid puzzle platformer where you do precise jumps to move from one platformer to the other and scratch your head when trying to figure out the solutions to the puzzles you find throughout the game. Moreover, you have to sneak past the many succubus and monster girls that live in the mansion by staying away from their visual range or hiding inside a closet when they are about to spot you. Whenever they detect you, they'll chase you at full speed and top you when they catch you. You can free yourself by pressing enter or the space bar before your pleasure bar is full, but you'll immediately lose when you're captured by a girl with a skull above her.
The boss battles—for the lack of a better name—put your skills and with to the test. They are varied and range from simply outrunning your foe while avoiding the many traps in your way to opening a path to escape while you evade your opponent's attacks.
My only gripe is the controls, but that has to do with how used I am to the default configuration in RPG Maker games and most emulators. Instead of setting the action button in Z and the inventory in X, they are set in X and C, respectively, and I often press the wrong button when I'm being chased.
Audiovisuals
Like in Nayla's Castle, the game features a mix of pretty pixel art, smoothly animated sex scenes, and 2D splash art you see whenever you're defeated. There also are a lot of different monster girls: your standard succubus, slime girls, mummy girls, and more. By the way, I hope you're into the non-consensual and femdom because nearly all the scenes feature it.
The soundtrack features a variety of ambient tracks that successfully build tension and give the feeling of dread you usually get when playing horror games. It doesn't even need jump scares to keep the player on their toes, though I swear the ghost girl was made just to give the player a heart attack. Nothing makes you jump from your seat harder than hearing her screech while she goes after you really fast.
Verdict: Must Play
Drain Mansion was so fun I got hooked on it for the 6 hours it took me to finish it and get both endings (it'd have been even longer if I tried to 100% the game). Whether you're a fan of horror games with an erotic element or looking for a lewd puzzle platformer with beautiful graphics and solid gameplay, this game is not going to disappoint you.
