Hero Roy’s Wedding is an adventure game by the creators of Paladin Rias where you play as Roy, the hero who slayed the Demon Lord, as he has 30 days to woo and marry the princess or any other girl in the most lavish wedding the king can make. However, he has to be vigilant since the townsfolk have set their eyes on his love interests and won't hesitate to put the moves on them.
Pros
Decent gameplay
Pretty art
Neutral
Average story with multiple endings
Cons
Subpar English translation
The game gets repetitive after a while
Story
It's simple and doesn't get any development past its initial premise. The characters are archetypal, with the protagonist being the average goody-two-shoes and naive hero. The same goes for the girls, which are the typical childhood friend, a haughty princess, a flirty dark-skinned girl, and a chaste knight. What's worse is that the English translation is full of lines that sound strange or worse, untranslated phrases. On the upside, it has multiple endings where Roy either marries his love interest of choice and has a happy life with them or gets cucked mercilessly.
Gameplay
The gameplay is similar to Material Girl in the sense that all you do is walk and explore the town to trigger events, as well as do jobs to get money and quests to obtain items and reputation. Moreover, you date any of your love interests and buy them gifts to raise their affection until they propose to you. It also includes a nice event system that warns you when a girl is about to get into a steamy situation, and it's up to you to intervene to prevent it. If you don't do it, then said character's purity decreases until they get corrupted.
Unsurprisingly, it gets old rather quickly with all the constant backtracking you have to find a girl, whether to date her or to cockblock someone who is about to get too handsy with her, plus it doesn't help that there isn't much variety in quests and jobs.
Graphics
What the game gets right are the visuals since they are pretty. There are about 40 nicely-drawn scenes where the girls get frisky with everyone either of their own volition or because the townspeople get a tad too pushy with them. However, the only way to watch them is by ignoring events altogether and getting VIP access to the DVD club (now I think about it, why the hell are there cameras and DVDs in a medieval-like setting? It makes no sense!). Moreover, the girls are detailed and full of vibrant colors, but the guys get the short end of the stick (hah!) and get drawn in a colorless sketch-like style.
Verdict: Average
Hero Roy's Wedding is right in the middle between a positive recommendation and a negative one. The game has more content than the typical RPG Maker adventure game, even though its shortcomings are notable. I still recommend it despite all that, but get it at a big discount.
