It's not often that a game subverts your expectations so hard. I imagined Treasure of Nadia would be a 3D visual novel like many others, but it turned out to be an engaging adventure game that’s so good I couldn't help but play it every day until I finished it.
Pros
Gorgeous graphics and animations that’ll blow your mind… and your load
Enjoyable gameplay with solid minigames that provide a break from all the exploring you do
An enthralling story that’ll keep you glued to the game
Cons
Some segments and side characters aren’t very engaging
Story
The game takes place a few years after the end of Lust Epidemic, yet it's possible to play it as a standalone game as long as you don't mind missing a few references to the first game. Here, you play as the son of a famous archeologist who moved back to Cape Vedra to fill the shoes of his recently deceased father and become a renowned treasure hunter like him, unaware that he's about to get involved in something way bigger than he could imagine.
Saying the story is entertaining is the understatement of the year. It neatly mixes humor with serious moments, and it's so engaging you can't help but marathon it, even though it ends with a massive cliffhanger that leads to its upcoming sequel, The Genesis Order. On the downside, the story moves from focusing on the main plot to other less interesting segments frequently enough to get annoying after a while. While I didn't mind the substory about Emily and the love potion, I couldn't care about the bits featuring Janet or Aila and her overprotective father, Sam.
Gameplay
The game mechanics are vastly different from what you'd expect from an RPG Maker game. It's an adventure game in which you wander around collecting items and using them to craft the tools you need to progress. While there's a lot of going back and forth from one place to another that might sound annoying, the hint system makes the whole experience more pleasant by telling you where to go or what to do whenever you're lost. Moreover, the game features minigames and a variety of puzzles so it doesn't get too repetitive, such as going from one place to another without getting bitten by extremely fast snakes or moving the characters in a specific way to open a door.
Visuals and Sexual Content
Its gorgeous renders and animations make the game one hell of a feast for the eyes. The devs did such a great job in this area that even fluids look like actual fluids instead of a greyish goop, which is nothing short of impressive. Moreover, there are a lot of vanilla sex scenes available for players' enjoyment. Most of them appear as you play the game, while the others become available when you open any of the chests on the island and use the Booty Call system to invite the girl in the scene to your house.
Verdict: Outstanding
Issues aside, Treasure of Nadia is such a stellar adventure game that it could have easily been in my top 10 in 2021 had I played it when it was released. Check it out if you're looking for a game with a gripping story and eye-pleasing visuals. Now if you excuse me, I'm off to get ready to play The Genesis Order.
