More often than not, hentai jigsaw games are no more than low-effort shovelware games. However, some games like Pieces of my Heart managed to turn a simple concept into a unique game. Is Hentai Jigsaw Photo Studio: Fruit Girls another game that also breaks the mold, or is it just your usual jigsaw game?
Gameplay-wise it’s alright but nothing out of the ordinary. The game features three puzzles for each girl with varying difficulties: a first, easy puzzle; a second, more challenging one; and a third, long one. The difficulty spikes are very abrupt, though. I haven’t counted how many pieces each puzzle has, but it felt like each of them had 50 more pieces than the previous one. A more gradual increase in difficulty and putting different amounts of pieces in each girl’s puzzles would have been better. That way, people would feel less tempted to use the “self-assembly” feature, and you feel like you’re progressing through the game.
The game’s biggest problem, and the main reason why I’m giving it a negative review, is its performance. I have a 4th gen i5 and a GTX 970 installed on my PC, and their loads are about 60% and 40%, respectively. I wouldn’t mind this if it were a big game like Subverse, but a game with no animations and simple mechanics shouldn’t require so many resources.
On the upside, its art is pretty. It has a lovely UI design full of photography motifs, and the drawing featured in the puzzles look good, even if they aren’t super detailed. Moreover, the few songs in the soundtrack are nice to listen to and make solving the jigsaws a pleasant experience.
Verdict: Maybe not?
It's not a bad game per se, but I can’t recommend it in its current state. However, it may be a decent addition to your library once they sort out the game’s optimization problems and adjust its difficulty.
