Sometimes, you can tell a game is great when you play an err... "test version" of it just to buy it after giving it a go for 15 minutes, and that's what happened to me with Last Evil. To this day, it's one of the best purchases I made on Steam.
You play as a succubus who infiltrates a heavily-guarded dungeon to free the Great Demon and avenge her fellow demons who were raped and murdered by the humans. The story is simple, like in any gameplay-focused, but let’s be honest, we are not here to read an epic tale that’d inspire us and move us to tears; we are here to play a PLOT-driven game that’d “move our friend to tears” if you know what I mean. ;)
Gameplay-wise, it plays like many other card battlers like Slay the Spire, while it also features a lust bar that fills every three turns and allows you to use sex-based attacks, including using your womanly allure to "keep your opponent busy". Once you win, you can choose whether to spend all your accumulated lust to drain your opponents' balls and obtain as much essence as possible or do a quick extract that will barely give you any essence. If you lose, however, you'll be railed non-stop, the game is over, and you obtain some experience based on how many foes you defeated, allowing you to get new skills if you level up.
The maps are procedurally generated and feature branching paths, hiding what lies in the next step. You encounter regular fights more often than not, but sometimes you find a safe spot to heal or manage your deck, a female shopkeeper who sells you cards in exchange for essence and offers you a sweet discount if you take care of her sapphic needs, a random event, a miniboss, or the floor's champion, which will let you go to the next floor if you beat them.
The art and animation are beautiful save for a few issues here and there, such as minor glitches when you repeat the slime's sex animation or a lack of variety in the basic enemies’ designs. They all look so similar that you feel like you’re always banging the same dude or their twin brothers. On another note, I love that you can customize your character by choosing her outfit, hairstyle, hair color, eye color, accessories, and boob size.
Verdict: Outstanding
Last Evil is an excellent game everyone should try. It's consistently fun for the 20 hours it takes to finish, plus its solid game mechanics and eye-catching visuals add to its overall enjoyment.
