The Book of Bondmaids is the sequel of Three Kingdoms Story: Conussia. I haven't played their first game, so I can't tell if it's just as good or better (I know, I should have played the prequel first). What I can tell after finishing it is that it was one hell of an experience.
Pros
It's a well-written story with three different branches and endings
An enjoyable atmospheric soundtrack that fits the game and the scenes it plays in
Half of its art is amazing!
Cons
…the other half looks unfinished, though
It takes place right where the prequel ends. The Lich takes over Conussia, and you've no choice but to offer your services as a mercenary to him. The story is far more engaging than I imagined. It's full of intrigues and plot twists, and in a sense, it reminded me of Long Live the Queen. Moreover, it feels closer to a "Choose Your Own Adventure" book than your average VN. There are plenty of meaningful choices that'll lead you to one of the three endings available or your death if you're not careful.
Artistically, the game is a mixed bag. The art ranges from beautiful and detailed, like in the screenshot above, to looking like unfinished sketches. The latter can pass as an artistic choice in some scenes, but it looks odd in others. As for the soundtrack, it's full of fitting atmospheric tracks that give a distinct dark fantasy vibe.
Verdict: Impressive
The Book of Bondmaids is a fantastic visual novel any fan of the genre will enjoy. While the art could be better at times, the story sure makes up for it, although you might want to play Three Kingdoms Story: Conussia first to understand the plot better.
